Hey man, cool work! btw i put the plays to 666 when i listened to this hahaha.. well i gotta say the mix is really good, i can hear everything clear although i think you could crank it up a bit in terms of loudness because you have enough space left, i presume for mastering? Nevertheless it's cool! Composition wise it's a tad too simple but on the other hand i guess it should be heavy and simple since you want it as a wrestler's entrance theme so can't really complain. Nice and heavy mate.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

Cheers man. I didn't leave too much room in the field. I normalized it all to -1 db...so like one decibel. Just crank it! haha. Yeah, no need for complex, just gotta sound good pounding through PA system...haha, while the wrestler comes out and kicks some ass. :) Also, I like keeping it simple. Only other musicians like "complexity". I make music for the common sheep. lol.

Cheers for the listen and review.

Very nicely done mate! Your guitar sound and mix is top notch. My only issue would be the drums vst you use, it's what's holding your track back. I would suggest trying out ezdrummer or superior drummer 2.0 to make it alive, the lack of dynamics on the hi hats and the samples you have are not satisfying. Composition-wise it's very very good. And your mix is also very good! Keep it up! :D

Naildown55 responds:

i think the reason the dynamics are lacking on the drums is because I set the velocities of the hi hat hits to be the same to control some of the dynamics. I guess I should probably not do that anymore since you were able to notice it. I'll probably go back and start the drum mix over from scratch. BTW im using addictive drums 2 so i think I should be okay. I have heard great things about superior drummer though and I will eventually check it out if/when I get the money. thanks for the in depth review. :)

holy fuckin sweaty balls of jesus christ... from the whistle flutes to the hurdy gurdy, from the choires to the percussions this is absolutely gorgeous. My only note would be that the dungeon part is a bit swampy due to the very mid range-y instruments (what is it clarinets? or some brass?) you use so it loses some of the original clarity in the mix that the composition starts off with. Overall pro work my friend. Grats. I want to ask you how did you compose it, was it entirely with some plugin/vst on a DAW or did you record some parts? I dying to know, especially for the Village part.

The claps are way over the main mix which makes it kinda hard to concentrate on what going beyond that. It's a really nice mellow composition idea you got there, although repeatable it keeps you interested. The melodies are a bit too ambient for my taste but i can see you got the potential to make nice tracks. So my proposition would be to experiment a bit more with your beat sounds to help your tracks come forward. Very interesting ideas tho.

sleepFacingWest responds:

thanks!

This is cool mate. Good job. My two cents would be that the chords you used for this are a bit common. Apart from this it's a really nice effort, meaning i can hear everything clearly, no out of tune parts, nice and seamless transitions, so yeah. kudos! The stoner outro kicked ass heh.

This is cool. Nice oriental progressions, the theremin choice stroke me as a bit odd tho..it's kind of too futuristic to be a part of something desert-y if you know what i mean but it's a "risky" idea and a new one so i'll give you props for that. My only problem is that it's a tad repeatable after a while and it gets tiresome to listen to. It's a good idea, don't take it the wrong way, keep at it mate. Also your mixing is good and i can hear everything. So kudos for that too.

Nice and heavy. Composition wise it's cool. I think you should work on your mixing though. because you have too many things going on in the same frequencies and the track gets way too busy at some parts. And your hi hats are kind of all over the place and also your kick is too thin for a heavy track.
Nice effort overall tho. Wanna ask, did you record the bass yourself too? that bass part kicked ass

TSRBand responds:

Thanks :) always looking to improve the mix. Yes, bass is usually my favourite track to record as I've been playing it a bit longer than guitar, always feels much more straightforward and natural to lay down some heavy bass. Glad you enjoyed it!

you should be bored more often heh. I really enjoyed the piano part, the rest of it i think it's not my cup o tea.. really nice melody though, perfect for a background of a game.

Are you taking a piss mate? I'll be honest, just in case you're not trolling or something, you need to compose and play your ass off before you make something audible. This is not it.

Ezdrummer 2? What kind of kit did you use? Anyways, It's pretty standard heavy rock stuff so i don't really have anything to say on the composition part, it's OK. I will comment however on your mix, which is very muddy. Your drums have a very mid tony thing going on and they don't cut through the mix because your heavy guitars are on that same mid frequency as well and the whole song gets swamped. Ezdrummer comes with a mixer as well, so try fiddling around with that for better results. I would also suggest trying out Superior Drummer 2 which is essentially ezdrummer only better when it comes to creating custom sets and parameters you can adjust to get the most out of your drum vst.

TSRBand responds:

Hey, thanks for the response! I'll be sure to examine that mid range a bit next time and look up some tutes about the built-in mixer. I used the Metal kit at pretty much its default settings out of the Modern range here. I have had a look at Superior in the past but found that it's a bit out of my price range, packed with a lot of detailed features I don't quite see myself using at this stage of learning. EZ by comparison seemed more like a quick and beginner-friendly set up, and sounded good enough for my purposes (in the perfectly mixed ads/demos of course lol).
